Cosplay - Colouring your Wig

I fell in love with the blended color wigs that are sold on this site but they are always sold out.  So I decided to make my own multi color wig.  This project is easy but tedious, it can be done in front of the TV :)

Start off with a White wig, for the same reason we draw on white paper.

I picked two colours I wanted to use, a Pink and a Blue.  I also have hair elastics handy so I can separate out my hair for colour.  It's mostly useful to separate the Already done portions.

You can see where this is going.  Just start colouring with your Sharpie.  You want to get every single strand (but done in clumps) so do it up against a surface that is throw away like a shoe box cover.

I liked holding on to a clump of hair and just rubbing the Sharpie nib and up and down the hair.  The colour might need several runs to be even, BUT having it not even looks even cool!  Automatic highlights.

I didn't finish the whole wig cause I actually thought it was pretty cool with just the bangs and part of the side as the only color.

Just thought I would throw in this picture for fun.  I wore this around work for halloween, but I wanted to straighten it first.  Possible but make sure it's on the lowest setting so the fibers dont start melting.

Giant PINK Bow

I was working on some lolita outfits for me and a friend to dress up in. I made a dress with this pink material and made a matching bow with the extra material. It's HUGE, which helps make the person look all the more childish, hence the lolita look.

Hello Kitty Bow Using Perler Beads

Retro Perler Beads (aka Melty Beads) are coming back into into geeky fashion.  Now that I'm older and I can get past the fasination that it melts together woot, but now am more interested in making more retro looking art such as Pixel Art!

I worked on making an outline for a Bow in some punkish coloUrs of Red and Black.  I work on making an outline first on the grid (it's got lots of pegs to hold the perler beads in place) and then I go fill in the main coloUr.  Yeah Yeah the picture isn't of the outline because I acidently knocked into it and half my piece came crashing off.

Here's the finished design.  Making your own pattern?  Best to think of the design you want in pixelized form, if your creative juices aren't working than there are patterns all over the internet

Time for the heat which comes in the form of an iron.  The iron will melt the top layer of the beads which will fuze together as it cools.

TIP:  Do not use the parchment that comes with the perler beads, it's probebly folded and those creases will show on your melted piece.

TIP:  Melt both sides of the piece.  This will create durability.  If not, it may snap easily.

While the piece was still hot I created a curve on the piece by forcing it to cool on a curved surface.  I do not recommend using your leg as you may burn yourself.

Vola, I glued the Perler bow onto a headband off centered and now it looks like a HelloKitty Bow.  Just now need some cat ears.

Odin Sphere Mercedes - Headband

I ended up making this headband completely different from how I originally intended, which was to get wrap green ribbon around flower wire sticks, and to glue on silk flowers.  But using resources at home I ended up using different methods and didn't come up with a 100% replica, but actually something fancier.

Flowers

Using the air dry clay I made three white flowers.

I used by sleeve to give the flower middle some texture Only attempt if using none sticky clay that won't stick and ruin  your clothes.

I used cake flower cutters normally used for wedding cakes to product my flower petals.  I squeezed the bottoms of the petals to give it a curved shape, and let all 15 pieces lay on tops of crumbled paper to give them some realistic non-uniformity.

While not completely try I pieced 5 peta;s togeter and placed the yellow piece in the middle

On to the headband

Instead of creating my own headband which i wanted to oringally do because it has a curved pattern i originally wanted to emulate, I started out with a flower garland that I had in my stash.  It's already got wire in it so it's got some structure.

The beadings is alittle  fancy, but it can make my outfit pop more, but I did snip off the white flowers because I didn't want to contrast against the large white clay flowers I have made.

Because I'm going to be wearing the piece over a wig I created a loop and hood so I didn't have a fixed size to the headband.  At the time of putting on my costume I can clip it tighter or looser.

Final step:  Glue the flowers onto headband.

Can't wait to see me wearing it with my outfit.

Fairy Tale Hair Clips

One of my first post talks about using wire stars as a base. Star Lock Key Chain and Bag Clips  Here is a second look into using these wire stars again.

Steps

  • Glue a wire star onto a Hair Clip

  • Glue an ornament on the middle of the star

  • Simple and Cute.

The trick is just mixing 2 or 3 unrelated elements that have a common feel (in this case "cute)

    Combination suggestions:
    • Pink and a Crown for a princess
    • Gold Sparkles and Coins for a night at the casino
    • Red and Rubies for a Wizard of Oz movie night
    • Green and Presents for Christmas Party
    • White and Black Music Notes for a Piano Concert

    Impromptu Kanzashi Hair Comb

Kanzashi Flowers are a Japanese process of using fabric squares to make flowers, often used for weddings.  Kanzashi flowers are always great way to use up fabric scraps.

I did this project in about 15 minutes before work one day.

Here I'm starting with some squares I cut from the scraps of my Halloween costume

    Fold Once, into a triangle

Fold Twice, into a smaller triangle

Fold Three, into an even smaller triangle, and vola a flower petal

Glue down 4 onto a hair comb

    YAY, cute new Hair comb.

Ok there's still a little bit of work I need to do on it.  Can still see the metal on the hair comb, and it has problems staying in the hair in loose hair.  But I'm sure with a little bit more time and more creativity this project can be refined to a wonderful product

    Winnie the Pooh Lolita Headband

Even though I enjoy making jewelry I'm personaly into wearing Hair Accessories. Don't know why not much for wearing the other stuff.  I think it's cause I dont really like having my hair in my face so I've use to doing it up and wearing things to pull it back.

Anyways I think Japanese Lolita headbands are cute, I mean Kawaii

Here's a Winnie the Pooh one I made. Basically you can use any non-slippery fabric, so I picked this cotton Winnie the Pooh bring. Put some lacey trim around it, and topped it off with some extra ribbon bows.

The coloUr tones are pretty mild, they dont scream STARE @ ME. . . . well at least when i'm not wearing a bright blue wig.

    CyberLox Falls Tutorial

You might come across these when you see the Goth/Punk kids who overdress all weird.  Aren't they COOOOOOL.

This project was actually quite easy to make, unfortunately quite costly as well. I used a combination of plastic lanyard and  tubular crin (think of these at weaved fishing wire into a tubed (sometimes flattened) and used as ribbon.  Some people also add crimped tubes, hair weaves, foam falls, and all sorts of other material.

I have never found tubular crin in a craft or fabric store so you've got to hit the internet to supply this project.  I wanted two colours for my project, but a vary of tones.

    Simples steps.

    1. cut all your pieces double the length in which you want it to fall.
    2. tie the pieces together in the center.  I used fishing wire and strung it right through the gaps in the weave
    3. Tie a hair tie to it

    That's it.  Easy.

Here's some pretty examples now :)  I added some extra funny stuff I bought at the hardwares store for other projects.  I can't tell you what they are because I actually dont know. LOL

    Glowing Xbox Christmas Bells

So as you might have learned, both me and Ava work in the Tech industry.  I happen to work at Xbox . . . now you can take a moment and go "whoah" ka ka ka.  Sorry I'm being prideful.  Back to the story.  For our 'Holiday' party our invite came with a picture of bells that glowed the Xbox logo. COOL

Thus we start with some Bells purchased at our local dollar store.

Shove some green glow sticks inside
    and turn off the lights.

ka ka ka, loop them through a hair tie and Vola, instant hair accessory.

Our 'Holiday' party was at two downtown clubs that they rented out.  Walk around in a crowded dark room was a great way to show these off.

    Don't they look awesome?

    Felt Flowers for your Hair

I've liked these hair clips I've seen at Fudego stores, but even thought they were only a few dollars, I knew I could make them for cheaper.

    Reasons why this is better
    1. Mine has more layers making it look even prettier
    2. Can't see the bobby pin on this version
    3. Great way to use up scrap fabrics can use the same material used as an outfit for a matching accessory
