Cosplay Prop - Vanilla's Spoon

I absolutely love the anime series Yumeiro Patissiere. It's about Baking desserts, what's not to love about that? (I'm a total foodie).

So this is Vanilla, the main fairy the helps the student out as she learned.  I made the outfit, wings, and spoon prop.

I found this foam piping  (super flexable) material in the hardware store.  Honesty I dont know what it's suppose to be used for, but that's the magic of aim lessly wandering and finding wonderful material.

I made the M logo of the spoon with sparkle craft foam and coloring the foam pipping with a black marker.

I created a harder back surface for the spoon handle end using the thicker presentation form boards.

Remember using the Iron for the Chi ears?  Well using that technique again.  I'm ironing this foam to help form it into the spoon base.

Need to hold it in it's shape as it cools

Now for the gold coloUring, via spray paint.

I love using old shower curtains.  It can be bunched up so you can get to areas like the underside.

Attach everything to a wooden dowel for a handle and vola.  Now I just need to know how to fly away.

Cosplay Rozen Maiden Suigintou - Tips and Tricks

There are two approaches to making cosplay.
1) Real clothing.  It is worn like all the clothes in your closet.  It's lined, it breaths, it's comfortable and fits correctly.
2) Fake it.  For those who have less skills/time/budget the outer shell of the outfit just needs to look right.  The inside could be duct taped together, sewing lines are painted on, etc.

Today I'm here to show you some shortcuts I used in creating my Suigitou cosplay.

Instead of wearing a shirt under my skirt I simply made a mock front piece which stays in place by using stetch elastic on the top to told it above my chest, and another stretch elastic to go around my waist.

Instead of creating a choker necklace with the same fabric and trim as the coat, why not sew it right onto the jacket similar to a collar.  This helps prevent it from twisting and turning, which happens a lot when you move around.  This keeps the front bow centered always, and you never lose the small jewelry piece.

Back to the shirt worn under the jacket.  Like the front piece, let's fake the sleeves.  I created sleeves that stick out from the opening of the jacket arm sleeves.  What's great about this is instead of creating a full shirt sleeve, you have none of the bulkiness that comes with the extra fabric, and my arm continues to look smooth and slender.

Here's an example of the top as you can see, without knowing you would never have known that my inside shirt wasnt a shirt at all.

There are black roses on her boots, and I tried to hot glue the flowers on, but the vinyl surface just wouldn't stay place.  I was hesitatant to even do any gluing as it would end up ruining a perfectly good boot.  I found that I use stretch elastic for the roses and wearing much as one wears a stretch elastic bracelet.  Because all the colours are black, no one really notices the stretch elastic on the outside of the boot.  And even if they did, they dont know it's not actually part of the design.

Yay, photos in the snow.

Wicked Musical Cosplay Photoshoot

In previous years the musical Wicked came to Seattle and both me and a friend Belinda fell in love with the broadway show.  So this year we decided to cosplay it.

Thought I would share some of those with you.  Photos by John Chuang except those that are photographs of John

  Here's Galinda and Elphaba

Trying to do some fancy Poster work

Monkey's are here.  Steampunk Style!  That's cause the girl who set up those costumes thought we were doing steampunk style and had never watched wicked.

Of course some humour shot, Monkey is trying to attack, while Wicked witch has to pull monkey back

Another Humour shot of Monkey See, Monkey Do.

And some behind the scenes shot.  We ended up using our photographer as a coat hanger.  And our monkey is cold. Plus ninja dude in the background hiding out.

Cosplay Progress - Power Puff Girls Z Dresses (Working with Fleece)

As promised, continuing on the Power Puff Girls Z cosplays

Because of the rushed job I went ahead and used fleece instead of fancier material.  Why this makes a wonderful shortcut
  • no hemming necessary, cut edges don't fray Just make sure it’s cut straight
  • comes in every color ever necessary  Go to the store with your mobile device so you can compare to an actual photo while picking fabric colors
  • Puffy Material, helps hid any seams if you dont use a tight stitch

  • Easy to maintain,  Throw into the wash without a care, and no ironing needed
  • less measurements needed because it stretches I didn’t need to measure any waistlines or chest areas; it’s basically a bag with rectangle cuts for the arm and neck holes.
Time to show off the cosplay.  Me and two friends decided to dress up as the PowerPuff Girls Z for SakuraCon.  YAY

Additional things I learned about fleece after wearing the outfit:

  • The Uniformity looks great
  • It's so cozy and soft we just wanted to wear it to and from the convention because if was comfortable, warm, and easy to travel in.

Cosplay Progress - Power Puff Girls Z Accessories

I needed a quick cosplay I could create for a group of three girls.  What's more awesome (and easy) than Power Puff Girls!!  But after some thinking, unless the real people have giant heads and short bodies, it just wont look so cool cause it's just a tube dress.  So let's go with the japanese version that as a little more details and is at least it's more distinct.

Power Puff Girls Z BELT!

Created the coloUrful embellishments from the foam clay I use a lot.

I cut out elongated 'D' out of craft foam and created the belt band out of the waist band elastics.  It's really big because it hangs loose on the girls.

1 Position 2 hot glue dab 3 quickly place and wait till cool
YAY belts are done.

Power Puff Girls Z GLOVES!

I used the cheap dollar store knit gloves (you know those kinds, the one size fits all) and some clear nail polish

Snip off the finger tips and dab on the nail polish.  The Nail polist will clot the fabric so it won't fray.  It's a little crunchy so a little itchy, but eh we won't be wearing this on a daily basis.

Vola.

Ok I know I know, where is the white band.  Well cost savings analysis I decided not to do it.  People wno't miss this kinds of details.  But for those who want to know how I would do it anyways.
  1. Get a pair of wooden bangles for each pair of gloves
  2. Paint it white
  3. Paint a black strip down the middle
  4. Glue the cuff of the glove (with hot glue) to the inside of the bangle.
~happy Happy~

I'll show off the outfits in the next posting, be back soon

Sexiest!  Look at that pokemon, it's got boobs!

Details:  I was amazed at the details put into this outfit, sorry dont konw what it's from

Best character acting:  Sorry this doesn't work as well without a video.  But this Beattlejuice had the perfect voice and walking style as he creeps around.

Hottest girl.  Yes she's hot because she's Sriracha Hot Sauce!
Found at Taco trucks and Pho places everywhere

Awesomeness:  Um I'm getting tired, pretend there's a category for this

Awesome non cosplay outfit:  She may not be cosplaying, but she totally fits into the scene with all the anime and video game characters running around.  I love that dress, I would wear it normally.

Best Makeup:  Chi ther persacon (computer in the form of a human) had streaks of white makeup to mimic the reflection of her plastic skin.  I was impressed

Me:  I thought I would throw in a picture of (1/7) of my cosplays so people knew who was voting.
