Cosplay Progress - Power Puff Girls Z Accessories

I needed a quick cosplay I could create for a group of three girls.  What's more awesome (and easy) than Power Puff Girls!!  But after some thinking, unless the real people have giant heads and short bodies, it just wont look so cool cause it's just a tube dress.  So let's go with the japanese version that as a little more details and is at least it's more distinct.

Power Puff Girls Z BELT!

Created the coloUrful embellishments from the foam clay I use a lot.

I cut out elongated 'D' out of craft foam and created the belt band out of the waist band elastics.  It's really big because it hangs loose on the girls.

1 Position 2 hot glue dab 3 quickly place and wait till cool
YAY belts are done.

Power Puff Girls Z GLOVES!

I used the cheap dollar store knit gloves (you know those kinds, the one size fits all) and some clear nail polish

Snip off the finger tips and dab on the nail polish.  The Nail polist will clot the fabric so it won't fray.  It's a little crunchy so a little itchy, but eh we won't be wearing this on a daily basis.

Vola.

Ok I know I know, where is the white band.  Well cost savings analysis I decided not to do it.  People wno't miss this kinds of details.  But for those who want to know how I would do it anyways.
  1. Get a pair of wooden bangles for each pair of gloves
  2. Paint it white
  3. Paint a black strip down the middle
  4. Glue the cuff of the glove (with hot glue) to the inside of the bangle.

I'll show off the outfits in the next posting, be back soon

Reusing a Bridesmaid Dress

I have two bridesmaid dresses in my closet that I've only worn once. I have a wedding to go to next weekend so I was trying to think how I might add to my pink bridesmaid dress that I wore to my sister's wedding. I need to do something to it in order to make it look less like a bridesmaid dress.

The question is, what makes a dress look like a bridesmaid dress?
- all one color
- no patterns
- no accessories
- use of cheap fabric, or a very basic, mass-produced, one-color fabric (satin, silk, chiffon, polyester)

I started by making a sketch of my dress, then layered on accessories. I think the biggest way to change the dress would be to add a big belt. Maybe do something a little victorian/steampunk? Lace, chains, a dangling pendant?

I'll be sure to post pictures if I do make this belt, or something similar based on this idea!

Cosplay Progress - Final Fantasy XIII-2 Lightning Belt 0.2

So the first thing I focused on for my XIII-2 Lightning cosplay was the belt.  I thought it was a good starting project to test to see if I would have the skills to continue to make the armour.

Ingrediants
  • Craft Foam,
  • Round Gems
  • Brown Vinyl
  • Sewing elastic
  • Gold Paint
  • Two different coloUrs of metallic GrAy spray paint

  1. I started off by cuting out the shapes out of craft foam; created the curves by heating the pieces with an iron and letting them cool in shape.
  2. Then I  glued on these Mini Round Gems for the studs found all over Lightning's armour.
  3. Spray paint the pieces with the metallic gray paint.  This will give the armour some depth because of the shadowing.
  4.
  5.  Basically the same thing for the gold pieces for the tails of the belt.
  6. I cut some strips of vinyl for the tails and glued everything together with E6000 (super glue).  The clips ensure that the craft foam and the vinyl stay together as the glue dries since the craft foam doesn't lay flat.
  7. I glued the front and side panels of the belt together with hot glue, but for the back pieces I attached it with sewing elastic.  This is so I can climb into the belt by stretching it out like stretch pants, but it will shrink back a more slim size.
Here's the finished product so far.

There is still some adjustments I need/should make but will do based on time
  • The front will be secured with a hook to the top armour so it will stay up, but the back sags a bit.  I will glue a safety pin so I can secure it to the back of my shirt at a higher level
  • I made the side panels too large which made the overall belt too large.  It's not slimming as it should be, but I rather spend my time on finishing the whole cosplay than to fix a piece that most people wouldn't even know was incorrect.  The fix this would just be to resize some pieces.
