Mermaid Drawstring Bags

I saw this fish scale fabric at JoAnn's last Halloween and couldn't resist. I never got around to making a Little Mermaid costume (sorry, Hubby), but I had the brilliant idea to make little drawstring bags that look like mermaid tails.

So fun!

I added little glass beads scattered on it (hard to see in the pictures) - they look like bubbles!

Hand-Beaded Drawstring Bag

I made a little beaded drawstring bag! I hand-beaded this flower years ago on a scrap of pink fabric and didn't know what to do with it. I came across it and realized I had more of the same pink denim and I thought it would make a really adorable bag.

Hand-beading like this is really not too difficult, it just takes time. I'd never done anything like this before.

Secure your fabric in an embroidery hoop. This will keep your fabric taught and make it easier to sew through. You'll need a thin needle for beading, the eye of the needle has to fit through your tiniest beads.

Try something organic - like a flower - first. Let your beads guide the design and the shape! Or you could trace a pattern onto the fabric using a pencil, then bead within the lines. To make this flower, I beaded the outside lines first to make the shape, then I filled in the spaces (kind of like coloring within  the lines).

Cosplay Progress - Final Fantasy XIII-2 Serah Farron, Bag 0.4

As you can see Serah Farron comes with this handy dandy bag that hangs off her waist.  Does that mean it's a duffle bag?  And I played the game through, she doesn't use the thing once! so what the heck is it for?

I didn't wnat to work with the bag panel by panel, so I made the front/bottom/top/back all out of one strip.  I put a band across it with some grey silk like fabric on to of white canvas.

Folding it into the odd shape I cut out more white canvas to match

Whoops I guess my grey panels didn't align properly.  Oh well.

Now for the waist band.  I'm using this shiny vinyl material which will also be used for the skirt.

Sewing two strips together for strength.

Drawing the cirlces and cutting them out after the sides have been sew together.  This will make it an accurate match.

Using the Piping concept.  To give texture to the edge of the waist band, I'm filling and sewing in a pipe (some extra satin cord I had laying around).

For the button I cut out a circle from the left over vinyl, and glued on a pink bead I made from air dry clay.   There's a lot of gold trim around the bag that I will create using long strips of the vinyl.

I do admit that the gold vinyl for the bag trim doesn't look as refined as if i used real piping, or just put more TLC into it.  But I'm taking a lot of time to finish this Serah outfit, so any short cuts will make an over all difference.

Tokidoki Backpack

So previously I was thinking of doing a Tokidoki cosplay, but it's too much work for a costume that won't be so impressive.

But I still made the sick kick, cause it was too cute to pass up, and I made him into a backpack so I can use it all the time instead of a mismatching purse.

So maybe it won't be matching of my cosplay but it will be so cute that people might want a photo of it anyways.

Look it even has a zipper so it reallllllly works for storage.

Anime Trading Card Bag

Let's not be wasteful, for those children who loved to collect trading cards as a child, what do you do with the wrappers? Do you throw them away?  Do you keep them cause they have cool pictures too?  Or do you tape them all together with packaging tape to make a bag! with a BOW.
