Baby Teemo

It's Teemo!

I made this costume for my daughter for Halloween. Babies need comfortable costumes so I translated Teemo's outfit into just a simple hat, beard, and booties.

For the hat I had an adult version I bought from Riot, so I used it as a visual guide to make a baby version out of fleece and flannel.

I added a Velcro chin strap to the hat because babies need one to keep their hat on.

Here she is with her hat!

For the chin beard fur thing I made a bib!

Here are the finished costume pieces!

Soooooo cute!

Gears Coffin Trinket Box

This box mixes Steampunk with Art Nouveau.

My inspiration began with the woodwork in this Art Nouveau hutch.

I spray-painted the box flat black (after covering the hardware with blue painter's tape), penciled on the details, then added metallic purple paint and finished it off with highlights in silver.

This coffin box is the perfect size to fit a little Justice League Superman action figure.

Sammy's Halloween Costume - Masquerade Style

So this year for Halloween me and my friends got tickets to a masquerade ball where the dress code was either Black Tie with a Venetian mask or just a cool costume. This was an easy choice for several reasons. 1) gives me an opportunity to use the Venetian masks I got in Venice! 2) After many years of Halloween I'm getting tired of Sexy outfits, I just want to wear something really glamorous.

So Victorian or Venetian-ish Ball gown I pick :) Picked up a pattern so I can't screw it up too much.  Based off my mask I picked a pinkish (purple) fabric with a darker purple fabric (because my boyfriend wanted purple).

The pattern is for a normal size person (and i'm short) so i had to cut A LOT off.  The pattern of the train also drags onto the floor which I had to trim down because I can't run around in public crowded drunken place with my skirt mopping up everyone's alcohol and foot prints.

So even though I followed the pattern of course the slightest shifts make a huge different.  With the picture on the right you can see that the where the lengths and curves were slightly different making the symmetry really off and odd.  Using a thick trim you can muddle those lines a lot  hiding the inconsistency.

With it being a floral trim I couldn't sew right over with a machine without it looking crappy, so I had to hand stitch the trim on.  Because it was straight it went fairly

Yay, now to show off the final product. Um excuse the lack of photo shopping the lighting and cropping out the silly door. I was in a rush to blog about this.

~giggle~ also time to show off me and my sweety ready for the ball.

Costume Progress - Riven's armor

Thursday night I finished three more pieces of the costume I am working on for Halloween: Riven from League of Legends. I may actually get this costume done on time!

First I finished the right leather pauldron. I cut a piece of leather and formed it around a frame made of buckram and a piece of plastic I cut from a plastic snow sled to give it shape.

I finished the right leg armor too. Wednesday night I painted it black, then on Thursday night I mixed some colors of green and silver together and rubbed the paint on over the black to give it a beaten metal look.

I had some leather belt blank scraps so I cut two strips and attached them to the back of the shinguard for straps. I glued velcro to one side so it will be easy to put on or take off.

I put together the pieces of the left shoulder pauldron by hotgluing them to a piece of soft-sheet craft foam. Then I painted the entire piece black.

After the black paint dried, I mixed up some more green and silver paint and rubbed it on to detail the piece.

Pan Am Flight Stewardess Hat

I got an email asking if I could make this hat from the new show on ABC called  Pan Am, about the Airline stewardess of the 1960's for the Pan Am company.  For those who don't know I also own an Esty shop http://ThreeLace.Etsy.Com which is basically the Ebay of Hand made Art/Crafts/Stuff.

Here's a picture of actress Christina Ricci wearing the lovely hat.  The Etsy requester provided this image as a reference.

On to making the hat.  I decided to make it a Pill Box style.  I watched the pilot episode and I noticed the back of the hat is curved down like a er um, i dunno, let's just say it's not pill box style.  But I think that a Pill Box style is easier to do and still gets the same front look.

Circle for the pill box top, long strip for the pill box side. Diamond and a gold button for the fancy design on the side.  And the from I made a extra flap so that the front panel goes higher than the top surface (what's what i noticed on the show).

Although I picked a thicker fabric the structural integrity can always be improved.  I used Iron-On Interfacing to stiffen

I dont have a serger, so instead i used that zigzag stitch to fake a serge.  Um as you can see I dont know the technical terms, does it show that I'm self taught?

Like I mentioned before, the front panel is higher than the top of the hat.  I also use it to hide the connecting stitches for the rim and the numbers I wrote (whoops it was suppose to be on the inside).

Using fabric glue I glued the front panel (even though sewn) so that it stays put and uses the fabric glue also to adhere the diamond to the side.  Sure I can do this by hand stitching, but the shortcut gets the same results in less man hours.

WoW Priest Costume Completed

Whew! I managed to get this costume into a wearable state just in time for Halloween weekend.

A coworker was kind enough to send me a pic she took of me on Friday; hopefully I will get some clearer pictures (natural light, maybe?) later. And if you are wondering, that's my new hairdo, not a wig.

I already have some great ideas for tweaking this to make it better, but first I think I need to make a [Staff of Infinite Mysteries] - it would make a much better prop than a Diet Coke or a camera.

Cosplay Week #5 - Lock, Shock, and Barrel

Another Halloween Costume.
I wanted to do something from one of my favorite movies, Nightmare Before Christmas.  But I dont like being the regular repeat so I like picking characters that are not the main characters yet are still reconizable.
So I decided to do Lock, Shock, and Barrel.

Challenges
  • Finding a third friend to join us
  • The characters look to easy to do, how to make it more impressive.
  • That BathTub is awesome, too bad we can't make it, wait wait wait, maybe we can.

How to Make the Bath Tub
  1. Find the largest storage bin you can find with the box like shape of a tub
  2. Spray Paint it White
  3. Sparsly Spray Paint it Black to make it look dirty
  4. Saw out corners from the buttom for your legs
  5. Glue on a Faucet (purchased from your neighbour hood Hardware store
  6. Glue on a Crank on the back, actually We drilled a hole and put it in like a PinWheel Toy
Having a Teddy Bear as our third character was amazing for two reasons
Not having to cram a third person in AND Adding that awesome cutiness touch

Picture #2 & #3 that I found on the internet of us.

I'm usually really picky about accuracy and asthetics when it comes to cosplay, but this one was so conceptually halarious that it just made me freaking giddy.

Cosplay Week #1 - Melissa Seraphy

In the spirit of dressing up for Halloween I would like to introduce Cosplay Week.  This week we will be blogging about cosplay projects we have worked on.

Old definition of Cosplay:  Dressing up as an anime (japanese cartoons), manga (japanese for comic book), or video character from primarily the Japanese culture
New definition of Cosplay:  Dressing up as any characters or persona

On to the project...

What is Halloween without a the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown?
I fell in love with this toy when I first saw it that I had to cosplay it. I didn't even know what it was originally from

So the hardest thing to do is to create the pumpkin. I will admit this wasn't easy

I got some foam (the egg shell foams for camping are cheaper to purchase than by the yard foam at the fabric store)

  • cut into it ovals (aka cat eyes)

  • spray painted with orange paint (this worked suprisingly well)

  • pinned the pieces together with binder clips (I learned in future projects that using industrial glue works well)

  • stripped in some fence wire vertically within the binder clips for structual integrity (worked well, but the ones that came lose began to scratch me)

  • turn the pumpkin into a jack-o-latern by cutting out eyes and mouth

  • you can see through the eyes and see the wiring and binder clips

Because foam is soft, the top has a small opening for my waste to popout of, and the whole thing was able to rest on my hips.  It was a little heavy, but well worth it for the love of cosplay

So the bottom has a small opening for my legs, because it was small and so low I couldn't walk normally and ended up shuffling around which apparently people find cute.

Little photo color editing and this is what you get.
