2012 SakuraCon SmallRiniLady Awards

Once again I'm back to present the SmallRiniLady awards for awesome costumes seen at SakuraCon.

Awesome Human adaptation, the little create from Mahou Shouho Madoka Magica

2nd place for Human Adaptaion
Companion Cube

Best Prop.  Mario Kart

Kawaiiness.  Ok normally it's a little toddler who gets this award, but this year it's a worn out person who was bringing job to con goers dressed up as Kon from Bleach

Most Accurate: Evangelion Unit

Sexiest!  Look at that pokemon, it's got boobs!

Details:  I was amazed at the details put into this outfit, sorry dont konw what it's from

Best character acting:  Sorry this doesn't work as well without a video.  But this Beattlejuice had the perfect voice and walking style as he creeps around.

Hottest girl.  Yes she's hot because she's Sriracha Hot Sauce!
Found at Taco trucks and Pho places everywhere

Awesomeness:  Um I'm getting tired, pretend there's a category for this

Awesome non cosplay outfit:  She may not be cosplaying, but she totally fits into the scene with all the anime and video game characters running around.  I love that dress, I would wear it normally.

Best Makeup:  Chi ther persacon (computer in the form of a human) had streaks of white makeup to mimic the reflection of her plastic skin.  I was impressed

Me:  I thought I would throw in a picture of (1/7) of my cosplays so people knew who was voting.

Costume Progress - Victorian Spats

Steampunk costumes call for spats! Or really great boots, which I don't have because of my gigantic ankles and calves. Anyone else have this problem? Anyway, To make spats (or gaiters), the first step is to make a pattern. To get the right fit, I created a duct tape "cast" of my foot following this DIY spats pattern guide.

After I cut it off and cut it into three pattern pieces (inside, outside front, outside back), I discovered the sock I used was really contracting. I had to really spread out the duct tape pieces and pin them down in order to mark out the pattern pieces on butcher paper.

I added 1/2-inch seam allowances and then belatedly remembered I needed extra width on the edge of the outer front piece (1) to overlap the outer back piece (2) and allow for button holes. I accounted for this when I traced the patterns onto the fabric with chalk.

I ended up with six pieces, three for each foot, mirror images of course. Then I sewed them together, sewing the two skinny pieces onto each side of the wider (inside) piece.

Lace trim came next.

Lastly I added buttons, twelve on each.

I spaced out the buttons equidistant (about an inch) and marked the spots with a chalk line. Then I ran it through the buttonholer over and over, twenty-four times. I got really good at making button holes, I can tell ya that.

Then I sewed on all the buttons, tried it on, and then removed half the buttons and sewed them on again to tighten the calf. At that point the spats were wearable but still needed two more tweaks before wearing them all day at a convention:
1) add a strap beneath the arch of the foot.
2) reinforce the shaft so they stay up when I walk (d'oh!)

2012 SakuraCon (Pre) Art Show

Just like Ava who was preparing for Emerald City Comic Con last week, this week is my turn to be gearing up for SakuraCon, the Northwest Anime Con.  ~YAY~  This is my cosplay event of the year.

Just like last year I have reserved spaces in the Art Show, which is a auction for art pieces, and portions of the profits go to charity.

I know I know, it's not anime or video games, or even japanese related, but they are soooo cute! and it is chibi.

I believe I haven't posted about these on CraftersInDisguise yet.  As some of you know I'm a fat of mini top hats (well mini hats in general) and after the success of my Moogle Top Hat I've wanted to create many other characters into top hats.

Instead of making new fabric top hats in Yellow and Miku turquoise I'm going to use foam clay to make them.  Here I've got two Pokemon and a Vocaloid.  I'll have many hats on display; some will be on alice headbands, some will be attached with ribbons; and some can be worn with hair barrettes
(I promise to blog more about these in the future)

  • Pokemon Oddish
  • Pokemon Pikachu
  • Vocaloid Miku
  • InuYasha Character Kilala
  • Xxxholic Mokona
  • Naruto
  • Pokemon Snubbull
  • Pokemon Clefairy
  • Pokemon JigglyPuff
  • Pokemon Meowth
  • Pokemon Psyduck
  • Pokemon Jolteon
yea I notice it's a lot of Pokemon, but it's the easiest to come up with that would be sellable due to the popularity of pokemon fleece hats.

As you can see I have made Prints of my Kokeshi Anime characters.

I did a whole set of them
  • Ourna Host Club
  • Kuroshitsuji
  • sailor moon
  • tsubasa (clamp)
  • code geass
  • final fantasy
  • naruto
  • hetalia
  • inu yasha
  • vocaloid
  • tiger and bunny
  • card captor sakura
  • Panty and Stocking
  • Xxxohlic

I know that the blog is online for the whole world.  But for anyone in Seattle who is going to SakuraCon, please check out the Art Show and see my pieces :)

Wait, what century is this?

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away?

Who knows?

Dark Helmet Wants You

A case of mistaken identity or just two poor men who lost their parents?

Another case of the multiples... there is some debate over what to call this: Katnisses or Katni?

Well, it doesn't get cuter than this...

I mean this:

Or more uncomfortable than this.

This is the part where the Tusken Raiders took over the sky bridge.

Phoenix Jones and the Real Life Superheroes had to get involved.

And the Red Power Ranger.

Rick almost got eaten by a zombie.

This guy swooped in to make an appearance. (his wings are made of painted blinds!)

Followed by this guy. (his wings open and close!)

Then the Steampunk Justice League (and villains) saved the day! ...

...after I finished my sandwich. (ah, Subway, the (un)official food of ECCC and PAX).
